Background
Conventional lidar (LIght Detection And Ranging) technology is widely used to measure the fill level of reservoirs. However these systems are less effective in poor visibility conditions or when the level to be measured is unstable. This is notably the case when dust clouds are formed as a grain silo is filled or in the case of tanks containing liquid that is agitated. Clients have contacted us to find a more suitable, contact-free technology that can measure the fill levels of reservoirs containing liquid, powder, granular, or viscous materials.
Solution
Our team has developed a prototype of a fill level measuring instrument based on INO lidar technology. Designed for industrial environments, it is robust and virtually impervious to surrounding conditions. With a range of 3 m to 100 m and a resolution of 2 cm, this instrument is versatile and has performed very well under demanding conditions. This device, which is equipped with a user-safe laser source and a high performance detection system, provides much more information than traditional solutions about the reservoir fill level and surrounding environment (fog, dust, etc.).
