The space environment holds special challenges for optical and photonics technologies, which must meet exacting space qualification standards (reliability, resistance to radiation, launch vibration, and temperature excursion). Our success in this field is due in part to our mastery of optical technologies that have proven their reliability in demanding environments, and by the ability of our expert team to grasp the inherent challenges involved in space projects. We collaborate with the main space agencies and astronomy research centers to study and develop components that are critical to the observation of the earth, atmosphere, and universe, as well as to the future of spatial exploration.
Among our achievements in this field, we have been particularly successful in developing components for fiber optic communications systems, such as dispersion compensators and WDM filters. We have a high-speed WDM test bench that allows us to test newly developed INO components and characterize the polarization mode dispersion (PMD) of optic links. We also offer fiber amplifiers (EDFA) and light sources (ASE) that can be adapted to meet client requirements.
Another area of INO specialization is the development and production of uncooled infrared microbolometric detectors, which play a key role in space-based terrestrial and atmospheric observation applications. Our expertise extends to packaging of microbolometric arrays, in order to provide detectors with the required stability for radiometry measurements.
