We are one of the world’s leading suppliers of specialty optical fibers. Our team of experts has designed and fabricated a wide array of superior quality custom optical fibers to meet the special needs of our clients. From modeling, glass design, and preform fabrication to fiber drawing and characterization, our scientists and engineers have the fiber design expertise to meet the requirements of large and small businesses alike.

Custom fibers

At INO, there are almost as many specialty optical fibers as there are fields of activity. With clients in a wide variety of sectors, we have developed solid expertise in telecommunications, industrial processes, military equipment, aerospace, and biomedical applications. Over time, this specialized know-how has translated into:

• Single and multi-clad rare earth doped optical fiber
• Polarization maintaining optical fiber (PM)
• Stress applying parts (SAP) for PM fiber fabrication
• Microstructured optical fibers for specific applications
• Custom rods and capillary tubes drawing
• Silica fibers
• Phosphate glass and fibers
• Photosensitive optical fibers for Bragg gratings

Our expertise is further enhanced the convergence of other specialties develop at INO, such as laser micromachining, fiber sensors, and biophotonics.

INO’s work has spawned a number of products to date, as well as several strategic alliances with specialized firms concerning product fabrication and commercialization. This is the case of Doric Lenses, which has been marketing the gradient index cylindrical microlens (CYL – Doric GRIN) exclusively fabricated by INO since 1994, IRPhotonics Inc., which has been fabricating and commercializing fluoride glass fibers since 2004, and CorActive High Tech Inc., which has been commercializing our silica specialty optical fiber products since September 15, 2006. Together, INO and its three partners in specialty optical fibers pool their respective expertise and know-how to consolidate their unique strengths in this cutting edge field.
