Abstract: We report the fabrication of double-clad Er3+-Yb3+-co-doped phosphate glass fibers and their characterization as active medium for high power fiber lasers. Fibers are drawn using the rod-in-tube technique. Double-clad fibers have an active circular core. To enhance pump absorption, the inner cladding pump guide made out of phosphate glass has a D-shape form. The outer cladding is made out of a low index polymer coating, on top of which a secondary acrylate is added for mechanical and chemical protection.
