Abstract: The reduction of product's life cycle puts an increasing demand to condense development time. The need to properly assess the technology readiness of a product, through the entirety of its development, is therefore crucial. In order to answer to this pressure, INO, a private R&D organization, has elaborated a development process based upon a Technology Readiness Level model tailored to the organization's needs. The implementation of this approach has had very positive and immediate outcomes. First, a more comprehensive development process is now in place. Second, a new common language has developed in the organization alongside a ubiquitous understanding of technology maturity states. With our experience, we advocate that the translation of this concept to all technology developments would benefit many industries. In order to promote this practice in innovation management, the concept has even been transferred to a consultant company.
