When you deal in the science of exploring the universe, dimensions and distances are immense, as is the need for sensitive, high precision instruments. That’s why our optical system design group was tasked by Canada-France-Hawaï Telescope (CFHT) to design a wide field-of-view infrared camera for installation at the prime focus of the CFHT.
Our specialists found a solution and put it into practice in the WIRCAM cryogenic camera. The sky is imaged onto the focal plane of the detector using relay optics that correct telescope aberrations and widen the usual field-of-view. The WIRCAM camera is combined with the largest infrared camera in the world and designed to operate at a temperature of-200 °C.
