INO has developed a handheld camera system designed to facilitate inspection of surfaces or objects in order to detect fluorescence-marked contaminant targets under indoor ambient light conditions. The optical detection system is robust and portable, making it easy to transport anywhere inspections are needed, and readily adaptable to a variety of applications and conditions.
For ease of use, the handheld camera system is held at a distance of about 10 to 20 cm from the surface or object to be inspected. The camera acquires images with a field of view of 5 to 10 cm in diameter in autofocus video mode. The images are processed in real time using ambient light cancellation to eliminate specular reflections and saturation. The resulting processed images are displayed on a screen indicating the presence of a positive detection. While the surface is being scanned for inspection, the user can either view the real-time images or activate an alarm to indicate if contaminant residue has been detected. The system can detect residues as small as 100 µm.
