Françoys Labonté, Eng., Ph.D.

Françoys Labonté possesses an extensive, deep, and diversified expertise in the field of high technology based on a solid scientific foundation combined with a concrete multidisciplinary expertise, both technical and commercial, to deliver innovative solutions for various applicative contexts. He obtained his B. Eng. degree from McGill University and then completed his graduate studies at Polytechnique Montréal, with a specialization in computer vision.

Françoys Labonté has more than 10 years of industrial experience within companies that are at the forefront of technological innovation, combined with 5 years of experience in the Office of Technology Transfer of McGill University, where he held the newly created position of IT Officer, supporting researchers and graduate students from all faculties and departments across the university.

He has joined the Computer Research Institute of Montreal (CRIM), a not-for-profit applied research center in IT and AI, where he played different strategic roles within the organization, including the last 10 years as CEO. He has been overseeing a staff of more than 60 employees, composed of researchers, research professionals, software developers and administrative support personnel. Recently, Françoys Labonté conducted the merger of CRIM with the National Optics Institute (INO) to create Luqia, Canada’s leading industrial innovation laboratory in photonics and AI. He is now acting as Luqia’s Executive Vice-President.
