High resolution and high depth of field are often conflicting requirements in surgical imaging. As a replacement to surgical microscopes, INO has developed a digital camera technology with three fold improvement of depth of field suitable for real-time surgical visualization.
In optical imaging systems, a high resolution is obtained by using high numerical aperture lens. However, increasing the lens numerical aperture creates a shallow depth of field. Resolution and depth of field are therefore conflicting requirements.
Through a combination of digital processing and novel objective design, INO has developed an imaging system that delivers 3 times the depth of field while maintaining the same resolution and operating at 60 frames per second.
