After completing the Business Administration program at Université Laval, during which period he served as President of the Faculty's Student Association, François Giroux joined the Clarkson Gordon (Ernst & Young) auditing firm in 1982 as an intern to qualify as a chartered accountant.

He left the firm in 1986 to join Gentec Inc. as Controller. When his father died in 1992, he was appointed President of the company. In 2003, his family became the sole shareholder of Gentec, having bought out the majority shareholder.

Since becoming President of the company, he participated in creating the electro-optics division, which now employs close to 90 persons. He has also contributed to Gentec's growth: the company currently counts 130 employees. In addition to these activities, he serves on the boards of directors of  Gentec Electro-Optics Inc. and the Institut National d’Optique.

In May 2011, he was awarded the Hermès Prize from Université Laval’s Faculty of Business Administration. In 2013, he obtained the A.S.C. (certified company administrator) designation from the Collège des administrateurs de sociétés of Université Laval.
